Crackgate

Methodology

Crackgate lists two different things, and the headline number is only the first. User reports are what people file here. Public sources are cases a moderator typed in from a public post. They are never added together.

Apple has described an issue impacting the inner display on a small number of units. This site uses that wording. A verified badge is a moderator's judgment about one report, not a finding about every unit.

User reports

A report that passes the basic checks is published immediately as unverified. Those checks are: the city or country can be placed, the fields make sense, the note does not contain a link, and the hours or fold count is not an outlier. Outliers and notes that contain a link stay in the moderation queue until someone publishes or hides them. Names, serials, and receipts are refused rather than queued.

Verified means a moderator looked at the user report, including a display photo if one was attached, and chose to mark it. We do not collect a receipt to do that.

Public-source confidence

Confidence is about the post, not about whether Apple agrees.

Each public source links to the original page. We do not download or rehost its photos. The import file has only the link, the source type, the confidence, a country, an optional city, a model, the date, a short timing note, a symptom summary, and Apple's outcome.

The privacy notice explains the lawful basis. If a square is your post, use Remove my case / this is my post.
